We’re all busy bees – rushing around in the morning, trying to find this, that or the other, in the hope of making it to work/school/uni on time and many of us forget breakfast. Alas, no more! Because overnight breakfasts are THE SIMPLEST things to make the night before the stress, handy enough to run about the house with whilst munching and filling so you can at least make it out before you start craving that Snickers bar.
I introduce you to morning matcha. Much like my Peanut Butter Overnight Chia Seed Pudding, this is just a variation on a theme, and even simpler than that – I didn’t realise that could be possible! Matcha is finely powdered green tea, caffeine still intact, so this’ll give you that buzz we’re all desperate for first thing on a Monday morning.
For morning matcha you will need:
1/2 Tsp. matcha powder
1/2 Tsp. vanilla extract (not essence! Essence is chemicals!)
3-4 Tbsp. chia seeds (depending on the size of your glass)
3/4 of your cup full of almond milk (or milk of choice)
1-2 Tsp. honey or agave nectar, or to taste
Simplest method ever:
Whack it all in your mug/cup/vessel of choice and mix well. The chia seeds may rise, so stir once every half an hour for the first hour, then leave it in the fridge overnight. Top with some berries or fruit you have lying around – I used coconut.
Matcha is a very unusual flavour, and may take some getting used to! Think of it as a bitter green tea – not unpleasant, but, as I say, unusual. So feel free to add more agave nectar or honey to get it more to your taste!
