The oyster. Aphrodisiac? Apparently. Appealing? Not really. I’d never had one, so I thought: slimy, grey, icky. And boy, was I wrong. 

I tried them at La Trappiste when my aunt came to visit, with champagne, of course, darling. I was stunned. 

On the count of three, we simultaneously sampled our first ever oysters, and we were pleasantly surprised. Accompanied with a red onion relish, they just tasted fresh and, quite simply, wonderful. So good in fact, I almost forgot about the champagne. Almost.
